Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, or HCG, is a natural hormone produced by the placenta of pregnant women. The HCG protocol was developed in the 1950’s by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, a British endocrinologist working at the Salvador Mundi International Hospital in Rome, Italy. There has been some controversy regarding Dr. Simeons’ program as at times it did not appear to have a solid scientific base. Dr. Emma took this idea and after conducting studies that were publish at national level, developed a new, more individualized program. Her program has been featured on television including Dr. Oz’s show and this is the program that our clinic utilizes.
How does the HCG diet work? In brief, the HCG allows clients to lose fat but not muscle, including fat that is difficult to lose through other type of diets. HCG helps with the feeling of hunger, allowing client to be on very low calorie diets. Remember, it is the caloric restriction that loses the weight, no the HCG. The amount of calories is specific to each client. Same for the amount of HCG used.
The program can be used by both men and women.

“HCG has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe and effective in the treatment of obesity or weight control. There is no substantial evidence that HCG increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restrictive diets.”
